Babcock Graduate Who Spent ₦10 Million on Political Science Degree Expresses Disappointment Over Job Hunt

A Babcock University graduate who spent ₦10 million on a Political Science degree has expressed deep frustration online over his inability to secure a ₦100,000-per-month job a year after graduation, calling the course “useless” and sparking widespread debate about education and employability in Nigeria.

A recent graduate from Babcock University has sparked online conversations after revealing his frustration with Nigeria’s job market. Despite investing over ₦10 million in a Political Science degree, the young man says he hasn’t been able to secure a job that pays even ₦100,000 per month—a year after graduation.

In a video posted to X (formerly Twitter), he voiced his disappointment, saying:

“Today makes it one year since I graduated from Babcock University. After spending over ₦10 million on my education, I still haven’t been able to get a job that pays at least ₦100,000.”

He didn’t hold back in criticizing Nigeria’s education system, describing certain degree programs as “useless” in terms of employability. According to him, only specific professional paths offer any real job prospects.

“I studied a very useless course. People might not want to hear it, but in this country, only courses like accounting, banking, finance, medicine, nursing, med lab, and law seem to have a future.”

He also listed disciplines such as Public Administration, Political Science, International Law and Diplomacy, History, and Food & Nutrition as fields with limited job opportunities in Nigeria.

Social Media Reactions

The video quickly gained traction online, drawing mixed reactions from users who either sympathized with him or questioned his academic choices:

  • @SirVik23: “Why would anyone choose political science in this economy?”
  • @Onungeneeze: “It’s true. Nigeria’s employment rate is below 20%. Choose your course wisely.”
  • @Reply_Guy11: “You’re finished if you plan to use your certificate here.”
  • @Saodami1: “Life is about luck. Some are born with not just silver spoons but polished ones. Sad reality.”
  • @HFOmomowo: “Relax bro. Your dream job paying ₦500k/month is on the way.”
  • @Skywalkgong: “Stop whining. Learn a skill like barbing. Make yourself useful.”
  • @Adetuberu_ife: “If your family could afford ₦10m for school, they can raise ₦20m to help you start a business.”
  • @gad_xo: “They didn’t send you to Babcock for academics, but to connect with the elite.”
  • @Tegaboi192: “You spent ₦10m on school? That says your family was trying, but still—why that course?”
