Babcock University Notice on Enforcement of Haircut, Hairstyle and Dress Code Regulations for Students

Babcock University Notice on Enforcement of Haircut, Hairstyle and Dress Code Regulations for Students.

The Management of Babcock University has announced the strict enforcement of its approved haircut, hairstyle and dress code regulations for all male and female students, effective from the commencement of the second semester in January 2026.

This was contained in an official notice issued by the Vice President, Student Development, Dr. Olaniyi E. Arije, on behalf of the University. According to the notice, compliance with the provisions of the Student Handbook is mandatory, as the University will vigorously pursue and enforce its policies on personal appearance and mode of dressing across all campuses.

The Management further declared that all previously issued “hair-passes” are invalid, null and void. The notice emphasized that the possession, presentation or use of any hair-pass or exemption is a direct violation of the University’s Policy, Rules and Regulations. Students currently in possession of such documents have been directed to discontinue their use immediately, as anyone found relying on them will be investigated and sanctioned accordingly.

For clarity, the University stated that hair-passes are illegal under its policies and do not confer any right to maintain unapproved hairstyles on campus. Consequently, the use, circulation or recognition of hair-passes in any form has been outlawed with immediate effect.

Under the approved guidelines, unapproved hairstyles strictly prohibited include bushy or unkempt hair and beards of any kind for male students. For female students, any hairstyle considered extreme, indecent or inconsistent with the standards outlined in the Student Handbook is prohibited.

In addition, the University listed several dress styles that are not permitted on campus, particularly during official academic hours. These include clothing made from lycra or body-hugging materials, sleeveless blouses or dresses, sagging trousers, baggy, boot-cut or over-length trousers, as well as joggers, sportswear and walk-out wear during official hours. The tying of scarves on corporate or academic wear, as well as the wearing of Bùbù and Dànsiki outfits, are also prohibited within periods specified in the Student Handbook.

Students have been strongly advised not to use or keep any of the prohibited items on campus, as possession or use will attract disciplinary action, except where such items are permitted outside regular academic hours. The University stressed that it will not entertain excuses, appeals or claims of ignorance.

The notice concluded by affirming that enforcement teams have been mandated to act decisively, as Babcock University remains committed to discipline, excellence and character development. All students are therefore expected to resume for the second semester in full compliance with the stated regulations.
