Cursory: Spelman College in Atlanta, Georgia, is making history by celebrating four valedictorians in its Class of 2023: Maya Blasingame, Amaia Calhoun, Sydney DuPree, and Chandler Nutall. These accomplished women have excelled in diverse fields and have ambitious career goals.


Spelman College, the Atlanta-based all-women Historically black college known for its trailblazing spirit, is once again shaking things up at its Class of 2023 graduation. Prepare to be amazed as not one, not two, but four exceptional individuals are being crowned valedictorians.
Each of the young women is making waves in their various fields and already has their lives after school mapped out. There are so intentional with their life aspirations, which is yet one of the many outstanding things about each one of them.


Maya Blasingame is at the top of her class as a Biology major. After graduation l, she will be attending medical school.
Maya hopes to not only practice as a physician but to serve underrepresented populations and advocate for those who are not always seen and heard within the medical community.


Amaia Calhoun, an Economics major with a double minor in Spanish and Management & Organization, is another valedictorian who is also Summa Cum Laude, ie she graduated with the highest distinction the school can ever give!
She will next join Princeton University’s Investment Company, a member of the Ivy League, with the intention of concentrating on capital allocation in order to alleviate the historical exclusion of underrepresented groups, particularly the Black community, from wealth-building activities.


As the top student in her English-majoring class, Chandler Nutall is aiming for a future in law. She wants to go to law school after finishing her bachelor’s degree and then complete a fellowship in New York.
She eventually hopes to take a position as executive director of a charitable organization where she will be in charge of managing, organizing, and funding initiatives to aid neglected areas.


Sydney DuPree, a theater major, also received a Summa Cum Laude award and graduated with a stellar 4.0 GPA. After graduating, she plans to stay in Atlanta where she is now signed with the Forward Agency in the hopes of realizing her dream of becoming a casting director.
This year’s Spelman graduation is a true milestone, marking the fourth time the college has witnessed such a powerful display of multiple valedictorians. Brace yourselves for an unforgettable celebration of brilliance and ambition.
