Chidubem Akpu, a highly accomplished Nigerian student, earned a first-class degree in Chemical Engineering from Nnamdi Azikiwe University with an impressive CGPA of 4.81 out of 5.00 and has been awarded the prestigious 2024 Summer Undergraduate Research Fellowship at Stanford University.
Sharing his achievement on LinkedIn, Chidubem revealed that he was among the top 3% of over 1,030 global applicants selected for this fellowship, where he contributed to research on decarbonizing steelmaking.

During his seven-week fellowship, he worked with cutting-edge tools at Stanford’s School of Engineering and SLAC National Accelerator Laboratory, gaining valuable insight into graduate-level research at a top-tier institution.
Chidubem expressed his gratitude to his industry mentor, Engineer Boye, as well as his professors and others who supported him through recommendations and essay reviews, which were instrumental in his success.
In addition to his research, Chidubem also had the opportunity to connect with the industry by visiting companies like Genentech and Autodesk, allowing him to see firsthand the practical impact of research innovations.
