COOU Management Bans Hawking Across Three Campuses

COOU Management Bans Hawking Across Three Campuses.

Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University (COOU) has announced a ban on the hawking of goods across its three campuses as part of efforts to maintain order, improve the learning environment, and regulate commercial activities within the institution.

The directive was conveyed in an internal memorandum issued by the Office of the Registrar and dated March 9, 2026. The decision was reached during the 211th meeting of the University Management Committee, held on February 23, 2026, at the Vice-Chancellor’s Conference Room. The management committee resolved that hawking of goods within the campuses would no longer be permitted, with the policy taking immediate effect.

Under the new directive, all individuals engaged in the sale of goods within the university are required to relocate their businesses to designated business areas approved by the institution. Members of the university community have also been advised to patronize sellers only in these designated locations to ensure compliance with the policy.

The memo further warned that any individual caught violating the directive would face sanctions. Such offenders would be apprehended and have their goods confiscated, which would only be released after the payment of an appropriate penalty as determined by the university authorities.

Signed by the Registrar, Mr. Chris U. Obi, the directive calls on all members of the university community to adhere strictly to the new regulation, emphasizing that the measure applies to all three campuses of the university and is aimed at promoting a more organized and conducive academic environment.
