An NYSC member criticized the scheme for issuing him a query despite informing his supervisors that he was recovering from an accident, sparking discussions about corps members’ welfare.

A National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) member has expressed frustration after receiving a query for failing to report to his Place of Primary Assignment (PPA) despite being involved in an accident.
In a post shared on X (formerly Twitter), the corps member recounted his ordeal while responding to a discussion about NYSC experiences.
He explained that after the accident, he followed the proper procedure by informing both his PPA and Local Government Inspector (LGI) about his condition. Initially, they acknowledged his situation, but he was later issued a query for his absence.
“A few weeks ago, this happened to me while returning from my PPA. One week later, they served me a query because my PPA was visited, and I wasn’t there. Me wey dey recover for house,” he wrote.
“I swear I did everything right. My PPA understood and sympathized with me (maybe because I’m not being paid). The LG office also said it was fine, but the next week, they still slammed me with a query.”
His post sparked discussions online, with many users sharing similar experiences and opinions about NYSC’s handling of corps members’ welfare.
• @madee_laine: “Can you imagine? I’m sorry you had to go through that. Hope you’re feeling better now?”
• @cee_4ourr: “They’ll just tell you to go to the NHIS hospital they assigned you.”
• @MzTaiwoO: “This wouldn’t have happened in Lagos during my time. All you had to do was inform your PPA and LG office. If you didn’t, of course, they’d serve you a query.”

The incident has raised concerns about how NYSC manages corps members’ medical emergencies, with many calling for a more compassionate approach.
