Edo State University Uzairue has Awarded Scholarships to 24 Qualified Indigent Students.


In her usual ways of giving back to society, Edo State University Uzairue has awarded Scholarships to 24 qualified students who met the requirements for the 2024/2025 Academic session admission. The letters of admission were issued to the first batch of applicants who availed themselves of the screening process. The event, which took place at the University Senate Chambers of the Institution on December 12th, 2024, witnessed the presentation of four (4) full and twenty (20) Indigent Scholarships to deserving students.
The Ag. VC. Prof. Dawood Egbefo stated that; the scholarship aims to motivate students to excel academically and develop valuable skills. He stressed the importance of achieving first-class results and emphasized the institution’s social responsibility to give back to the host community. He assured the beneficiaries that their progress would be monitored through their Heads of Department to identify and address any challenges. He urged them to be good ambassadors of the institution and wished them success in their quest to become feature leaders through their academic pursuits.
Prof. Dawood Egbefo paid tribute to the institution’s first visitor and founder, His Excellency Senator Adams Oshiomhole, and commended the current visitor, His Excellency Senator Monday Okpebholo, for their commitment to sustainable development.
The Registrar, Mr. Habib Ekhalefo, also, expressed gratitude to the Edo State government and the founding fathers of Edo State University for investing in the education of underprivileged children. He encouraged the beneficiaries to continue working hard to achieve excellence.
Ekhalefo noted that the Edo State Government has approved the award of 100 indigent scholarships through the Indigent Students Scholarship Award (ISSA), and to qualify for the scholarship, applicants must be indigenes of Edo State and demonstrate a certain level of intelligence. The scholarship covers tuition fees for any chosen program, excluding Medicine and Surgery, Nursing, Law, Medical Laboratory Science, and Engineering. He explained that a rigorous screening process was conducted to select the best candidates for this first batch. He also emphasized that the scholarship program is ongoing and urged indigent indigenes to encourage their children to apply and prepare for a better future.

Meanwhile, the recipients of the Scholarship awards thanked the management of Edo State University Uzairue and the Executive Governor of Edo State, Senator Monday Okpebholo, for the opportunity given to them to pursue their Undergraduate Academic Journey at the University and collectively pledged to make the institution proud.
