Ekiti State Government refuted claims of mass failure in the 2024 Common Entrance Examination, clarifying that over 97% of students passed, with the issue stemming from limited capacity in preferred schools rather than student performance.

The Ekiti State Government has debunked reports of mass failure in the 2024 Common Entrance Examination, with Education Commissioner Dr. Bimpe Aderiye clarifying that 97.43% of public school pupils and 97.28% of private school pupils passed the exam.
Aderiye explained that the issue lies not with the students’ performance but with the limited capacity of certain preferred schools, as many parents and guardians insist on their children attending specific schools, particularly newly established Model Colleges and reputed institutions. She detailed the performance of candidates, noting that out of 16,361 pupils examined, 13.47% scored between 200-299, 69.26% between 300-399, and 14.70% between 400-500.
The government, committed to providing free, compulsory, and qualitative education, has transformed all 203 public schools in the state through various interventions, including recruitment of teachers and renovation of infrastructure. The state is also collaborating with international organizations, such as the World Bank, on programs like AGILE and IDEAS to enhance education quality.
Dr. Aderiye urged parents to be flexible in their school choices and advised those whose children didn’t meet cut-off marks to consult the Ministry of Education for alternative placements, stressing that no school in the state is inferior to another.
