Brilliant Nigerian lawyer Lukman Audu has been awarded the prestigious UK Chevening Scholarship to pursue a Master’s in International Human Rights Law at the University of Essex, standing out among 11,000 applicants thanks to his dedication, advocacy experience, and commitment to global human rights.

allscho Lukman Audu, a highly accomplished Nigerian legal practitioner, has triumphed over 11,000 fellow applicants to earn the distinguished UK Chevening Scholarship for the 2024–2025 academic year. He will be pursuing a Master of Laws in International Human Rights Law at the University of Essex, England.
Lukman graduated from the University of Maiduguri with a degree in International Law and Legal Studies, and was called to the Nigerian Bar after training at the Nigerian Law School.
Announcing his award on LinkedIn, Lukman shared that only 32 Nigerian scholars were selected from thousands of applicants, making this a highly competitive achievement. The Chevening Scholarship, funded by the UK Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office (FCDO), covers full tuition, living expenses, travel, and visa costs for postgraduate study in the UK.
Lukman described the selection process as intensely demanding, noting that applicants competed globally with fewer than 2% gaining admission. His persistence and commitment, honed through over seven years of professional experience with both national and international organizations, ultimately paid off.
His career has focused on protecting and advancing the rights of refugees, prisoners, displaced persons, women, and children. These experiences inspired his pursuit of an advanced degree in human rights law.
With this opportunity, Lukman looks forward to deepening his knowledge and collaborating with global experts to address human rights issues both in Nigeria and internationally.
Lukman expressed deep appreciation to the Chevening Awards, the University of Essex, UKinNigeria Embassy, his mentors, friends, and family for their unwavering support throughout his journey.
