Cursory: A fake NYSC member was arrested by the Nasarawa State Police Command for unlawfully accessing the NYSC orientation camp in Keffi. Chibuife, a final-year student at Ebonyi State University, infiltrated the camp during the 2024 Batch A, Stream 1 orientation program. She faces charges of criminal trespass, impersonation, and forgery.

The Nasarawa State Police Command has apprehended a fraudulent individual, Ogeh Bethel Chibuife, for unlawfully gaining access into the Magaji Dan Yumusa Orientation Camp in Keffi, the capital of the state. This incident was disclosed in a statement issued by the state police spokesperson, Ramhan Nansel, on Thursday.
Nansel explained that the suspect, a final-year student of Public Administration at Ebonyi State University, infiltrated the NYSC camp during the 21-day orientation program designated for the 2024 Batch A, Stream 1 corps members. She was discovered during a routine headcount, prompting an NYSC official to report the case to the police on Sunday. Subsequently, law enforcement officers apprehended her.
Upon investigation, it was revealed that the suspect was enrolled at Ebonyi State University in the Faculty of Management Science, Department of Public Administration. She confessed that despite being expected to graduate in 2022, she had accumulated numerous outstanding courses.
In his words:
“Investigation revealed that the suspect was a student of Ebonyi State University, Faculty of Management Science and Department of Public Administration.
“She confessed that she was supposed to have graduated in 2022, but had a lot of spillover courses, and in a bid to cover up the lies she had made to her parents, she went to the market and purchased NYSC uniforms/other items meant for corps members and sneaked into the camp in order to take pictures and send to her parents before nemesis caught up with her,” he added.
Consequently, she faces charges of criminal trespass, impersonation, and forgery at the Chief Magistrate Court in Keffi.
The Commissioner of Police, Umar Shehu Nadada, has issued a stern warning to individuals contemplating similar deceitful acts, cautioning them that the law will eventually catch up with them.
This incident follows a previous case reported by PUNCH, where another fake corps member, Muhammed Bello Hassan, was apprehended at the Bauchi State orientation camp for allegedly entering the camp with a forged call-up letter.
It was reported that Hassan was found in possession of stolen mobile phones and other valuable items belonging to corps members in the camp.
