To tackle the problems associated with environmental pollution and rising costs of energy in the country, a Nigerian University has produced a solar-powered cooking gadget.

The Director of Centre for Energy Studies (CES), Prof. Emmanuel Hala Kwon-Ndung, while showcasing the gadget to the Vice-Chancellor of FULafia, Prof. Shehu Abdul Rahman, recently, at the University, said that the product would serve as an alternative to electric, gas and other environmentally hazardous cooking devices and reduce cost of cooking energy.
In his speech, the visibly elated Abdul Rahman, welcomed the efforts of CES, saying: “This is what we establish centres and directorates in the University to do-to come up with creative ideas like this to solve problems in our country.”
Abdul Rahman commended Kwon-Ndung, for the initiative, saying: “I commend the Centre for Energy Studies, which has Prof. Kwon-Ndung as the director for coming up with such an idea. Centres are not only created for teaching but for training and research and the outcome of research should bring about development. This is the type of developments we yearn for.”
He called on the CES to shop for collaborators with a view to commercially producing the cooker.
