The picture attached represents questions in the minds of many Nigerians: is the National Youth Service Corps still relevant?
At this time last year, the 2019 class of History and International Studies of the University of Uyo, Nigeria, mourned the demise of Coleman Ezurike, a vibrant young man who lost his life in an accident en route NYSC camp.
A year after, the 2011 class of Iheorji Secondary School mourn Eunice Chioma Igweike, whose picture is attached, reportedly abducted en route NYSC camp and was later found dead.
Their demise was caused by different “bullets,” one may say, but one ground factor.
With the rising insecurity and carefree attitude of the ruling class, is it okay to continue to risk the lives of thousands of Nigerians in their prime via this scheme?
Hard to say but REST IN PEACE Eunice Chioma Igweike.
May God come through for this nation.

Today again, as I just log on to this blue app, I saw a news concerning the death of my secondary school classmate on chijioke’s wall. Igweike Chioma was said to have been kidnapped and killed on her way to NYSC camp. She left the house on 20-07-2022 and was declared missing just to find out she was kidnapped and killed. This is a girl that always stop me each time she saw me just to know my welfare. She would be like “Nna nda, imelagi, James nwannegi kwanu”. I saw her few days ago and we exchanged pleasantry as usual. I didn’t know that is the last day of seeing her. Since there’s no way to aid a smooth journey to our various place of assignment, FG should scrap NYSC out. This govt has indeed failed us.
I can’t believe I’ve lost another friend on July again ![]()
