A female student at the Federal University Dutse (FUD) in Jigawa State has allegedly killed her newborn baby inside the university hostel.
The student’s identity remains undisclosed. Reports indicate that she gave birth to the infant and then threw the baby from the top floor of a three-storey hostel building. The incident reportedly occurred on Monday.
A viral video shows fellow students questioning the mother about her actions. One student is heard asking, “Why did you do this?” while another video clip captures the distress of students as they discover the lifeless body of the baby on the ground.
In the footage, the university’s department of works arrives in a vehicle to remove both the deceased baby and the mother from the scene.
When contacted by TheCable Lifestyle on Tuesday, Lawan Shiishu Adam, the spokesperson for the Jigawa police, confirmed that an investigation is underway. He stated that he could not confirm the details of the incident at that time but promised to provide more information after verifying the video.
“We are investigating the matter. I do not know if the matter has been reported yet. Allow me to confirm from the video so that I can feed you back,” Adam said.
