Four Nigerian Students Imprisoned in the UK Over Gang Violence

Four Nigerian students from De Montfort University in Leicester were sentenced to prison for a violent gang fight involving weapons that left an 18-year-old injured, following a detailed police investigation.

Four Nigerian students have been sentenced to prison by a UK court for their involvement in a violent gang fight that took place in Leicester on November 4, 2021.

The altercation, which occurred during the early hours of the day, involved the use of dangerous weapons, including knives and a baseball bat. An 18-year-old man sustained multiple stab wounds as a result of the fight.

Following months of investigation, including CCTV analysis, mobile phone records, and public appeals, police were able to identify and arrest the suspects.

Detective Constable Sean Downey commented on the case, saying:
“This incident underscores the grave danger of violent disorder. It’s fortunate that no further injuries were inflicted on those involved or innocent bystanders. Through extensive investigative work, including CCTV inquiries and public assistance, we were able to identify and charge the suspects.

“Our priority as a force is to ensure public safety, and we will not tolerate such violence in our communities. I want to thank everyone who contributed to this investigation and provided critical information.”

The four defendants, all 21-year-old students at De Montfort University in Leicester at the time of the incident, were sentenced on Thursday, November 14.
