The Governing Council of the Federal University of Lafia (FULafia) has approved the establishment of a new research centre.

The new research centre is to be called Aliko Dangote Sugarcane Research Centre.
The centre is expected to be a research centre of excellence for the conduct of research in sugarcane cultivation, processing, refining and training.
According to a statement issued by the Registrar of FULafia, Malam Nuradeen Abdu, the council approved the establishment of the centre during its 22nd Regular Meeting that took place on March 19 and 20, 2025.
The statement said that the centre would engender and promote collaboration between the University and Aliko Dangote Group.
It would be recalled that the Dangote Group of Companies has, few years ago, established a sugarcane farm in Awe Local Government Area of Nasarawa State.
The statement said that the collaboration would, yet, focus on development of agriculture.
It added that the University’s Faculty of Agriculture and Centre for Agriculture and Rural Development Studies (CARDS) would drive the project on behalf of FULafia.
