Federal University of Technology Akure, FUTA Candid Advice to Newly Admitted Students 2018/2019.

The Vice Chancellor of the Federal University of Technology Akure, FUTA Professor Joseph Fuwape has advised newly admitted students of the institution to imbibe positive attitude to academic activities and strike the right balance in their social life.

The Vice Chancellor gave the advice at the commencement of the orientation programme for new students admitted for the 2018/2019 academic session. He urged them to attend lectures, practical classes, workshops and other allied academic activities regularly.

He emphasized that the peculiarities of the academic environment gives rise to “academic culture”, which is characterized by discipline, orderliness, creativity, excellence integrity, diligence and rationality. He warned the students that they can only earn a degree at FUTA if found worthy in character and learning at the end of their studentship in the University.

Professor Fuwape reiterated that FUTA has zero tolerance for indiscipline, cultism, and examination misconduct. He said the full weight of the law of the institution will be applied to discipline students who run afoul of extant rules and regulations.

He assured them that the University Management will continue to ensure adequate provision of amenities to make learning pleasurable saying FUTA has one of the best crop of academic and nonacademic staff in the country.

The Dean, student affairs division, Professor Gbenga Onibi who also addressed the new students, congratulated them for being part of the lucky ones that secured admission into FUTA.

He said unlike the secondary school, the University is a different society, no bells to wake anyone up from bed or rules requesting one to observe light out. However the University has rules and regulations guiding every activity.

He said the students’ affairs division serves as the “Loco parentis” within and outside the campus to students in the course of their stay in the institution.

Professor Onibi said that the orientation programme is a way of welcoming and properly grounding them in the ethics and culture of FUTA.

He expressed expressed profound gratitude to the University management team led by Professor Fuwape for the special and continuous attention that has always been given to matters that concern the welfare of students.
