Gombe State University, GOMSU Appoints Prof. Rasheed Abdulganiy as Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academic).


The Governing Council of Gombe State University, at its 60th meeting held on 9th April, 2026, has approved the appointment of Professor Rasheed Abdulganiy as Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academic), with effect from 29th January 2026.
Professor Abdulganiy is a seasoned academic and an accomplished Professor of Islamic Studies. His research interests also encompass Islamic Economics and Islamic Theology, reflecting a rich and diverse scholarly profile.
He obtained his Bachelor of Arts degree from the Islamic University, Madinah in 2001, a Master’s degree from the University of Jos in 2005, and a Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) from Usmanu Danfodiyo University, Sokoto in 2011.
With over two decades of experience in teaching, research, and university administration, Professor Abdulganiy has served the University in various capacities, including Faculty Examination Officer (2010–2016), Head of Department (2016–2020), Director of Academic Planning (2020–2025), and currently as Dean of Students’ Affairs (since January 2025).
He has also contributed significantly to institutional governance, having served as a Member of the Joint Council/Senate Committee on the Vice-Chancellor Search (2014), Member of the Joint Senate-Council Committee on the Selection of a Vice-Chancellor (2019), and Senate Representative to the Governing Council (2021–2024).
In addition, Professor Abdulganiy has served as an External Examiner to several reputable institutions, including the University of Ilorin, Federal University Kashere, Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, University of Maiduguri, and the College of Education, Billiri. He has also benefited from various research and travel grants, facilitating his participation in national and international conferences and workshops.
The University congratulates Professor Abdulganiy on his appointment and expresses confidence in his capacity to contribute meaningfully to the advancement of the University’s academic mandate.
