Ibrahim is a newly qualified nurse who graduated with distinction from Manchester Metropolitan University and holds Master’s degrees in Electrical Engineering from the University of Nottingham and Data Science from Bournemouth University. He previously earned a B.Sc. in Electrical Engineering at UNILAG. This multidisciplinary education equipped him with the analytical and problem-solving skills necessary for high-quality patient care.

Originally from a community in Ibadan associated with social challenges, Ibrahim attributes his resilience, humility, and hard work to the upbringing by his maternal grandmother in Isale-Alfa, Ibadan. The values instilled in him have shaped his journey and deepened his faith in Allah’s plan, motivating him to contribute positively to his community through his nursing practice.

The Journey of Earning Three Master’s Degrees

Over the span of 5-6 years, Ibrahim successfully completed three Master’s degrees in different fields, showcasing his commitment to multidisciplinary learning. He obtained an MSc in Electrical Engineering for Sustainable and Renewable Energy, an MSc in Data Science and Artificial Intelligence, and an MSc in Adult Nursing. This diverse expertise allows him to contribute across various sectors while preparing for a fulfilling healthcare career.

His ability to manage his time effectively, coupled with an insatiable intellectual curiosity, enabled him to excel in these demanding fields. The completion of these degrees serves as a testament to his drive for excellence.

From an early age, Ibrahim sought a life of comfort and security, not just for himself but for his future generations. Inspired by his maternal grandmother’s belief in education as the key to success, he pursued lifelong learning to ensure that future generations of his family would not face poverty.

As a child, Ibrahim’s dreams shifted over time. Initially, he aspired to be a soldier, a dream his mother discouraged. His aspirations later gravitated toward becoming a pilot, met with similar concerns from his grandmother. Ultimately, his parents hoped he would become a doctor, supporting his education accordingly. However, as he discovered his passion for overcoming challenges, he gravitated toward Engineering, encouraged by mentors who saw his potential in Electrical and Electronics Engineering.

Although his family had concerns regarding the risks associated with his chosen field, especially his late maternal grandmother who voiced her worries for his safety, Ibrahim was driven by the sacrifices his mother made for his education, which reinforced his determination to excel.

Following the loss of family members, especially his maternal grandmother, whose death highlighted the shortcomings of healthcare in his community, Ibrahim became passionate about making a difference in healthcare. Observing the reliance on herbal concoctions (known as “Agbo”) for serious illnesses in his community fueled his desire to promote healthcare awareness and accessible treatment.

Ibrahim faced numerous challenges while pursuing his MSc in Adult Nursing, particularly in balancing family commitments, work responsibilities, and studies. As a father of two with a pregnant wife, he juggled placements, lectures, and part-time employment, all while ensuring his family was cared for. Unlike many students, he had no external funding and often sacrificed personal needs to manage his finances.

Furthermore, the stress of academic deadlines, exam preparations, and clinical placements left little room for rest. The combination of night shifts, studying, and family obligations required meticulous planning and stamina. Despite feeling overwhelmed, his determination and faith provided him the strength to persevere.

The transition from Nigeria to the UK presented its own set of challenges, including adapting to new educational systems and cultural expectations. Starting afresh in nursing, a field entirely new to him, meant he had to unlearn and relearn many concepts. The emotional burden of lost loved ones compounded these challenges, yet it fueled his passion for healthcare.

Ibrahim’s journey exemplifies resilience, with his faith playing a vital role in maintaining focus and stability. Support from his wife, family, and mentors provided essential encouragement during difficult times. He emphasized the importance of goal-setting, prioritization, and efficient use of time in navigating his multifaceted life.

Despite the many hurdles, Ibrahim remains proud of the progress he made, viewing each challenge as a catalyst for growth.

Though he has two pending master’s programs (MSc in Materials Science and Engineering and MSc in Power Engineering.
