Nnamdi Azikiwe University, UNIZIK Ranks as 3rd Most Subscribed Institution in Nigeria for 2022/2023 Academic Session


Nnamdi Azikiwe University has yet achieved a significant milestone, ranking as the third most subscribed institution in Nigeria for the 2022/2023 academic session, according to the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB). Published in JAMB’s Weekly Bulletin under the ‘JAMB Institutional Ranking’, the university attracted 58,956 candidates, trailing only behind the University of Ilorin with 97,351 candidates and the University of Lagos with 75,967 candidates. This ranking reflects the institution’s growing popularity and strong reputation among prospective students.
The ranking by JAMB evaluates institutions based on five key areas: Most Subscribed Institutions by candidates, Most National in terms of Admission, Most Improved in Gender Balance, Most International Students, and Most Compliant to Admission Guidelines. Nnamdi Azikiwe University’s impressive placement in the Most Subscribed category highlights its appeal and competitive edge in the Nigerian education sector.
In the Most National in terms of Admission category, the Air Force Institute of Technology (Degree), Kaduna, ranked first, followed by Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, and Kaduna Polytechnic. For the Most Improved in Gender Balance, Borno State University, Maiduguri, took the top spot, with Ramat Polytechnic and Ambrose Alli University following closely. In terms of admission of international students, the University of Ilorin led with 70 students, followed by Ahmadu Bello University and the University of Maiduguri.
For compliance with admission guidelines, eight institutions achieved the highest score of 90 percent. These institutions include Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, Air Force Institute of Technology, Kaduna, Dominican University, Ibadan, and Federal College of Education (Tech), Gombe, among others.
Nnamdi Azikiwe University’s achievement underscores its status as a leading educational institution, continuing to attract a diverse and growing student body.
