Kano Governor Receives NUT Golden Award

Kano State Governor Abba Yusuf received the NUT Golden Award for his significant reforms in the education sector, including allocating 29.9% of the 2024 budget to education and improving infrastructure and access.

The Nigeria Union of Teachers (NUT) has awarded the NUT Golden Award to Kano State Governor, Abba Yusuf, in recognition of his impactful reforms in the state’s education sector.

According to a statement on Sunday, the award was presented to Governor Yusuf during the 2024 World Teachers’ Day celebration held at Eagle Square, Abuja, on Saturday.

The event, which was organised in collaboration with the Federal Ministry of Education, brought together teachers and key education stakeholders from across Nigeria’s 36 states to honour their contributions to the education system.

In his address, NUT National Chairman, Titus Ambe, noted that only six governors were selected for this prestigious award, based on their commitment to improving education, particularly in enhancing teachers’ welfare and facilitating continuous professional development.

He highlighted Governor Yusuf’s administration for its significant achievements in transforming Kano State’s education system.

“Governor Yusuf notably allocated 29.9% of Kano’s 2024 budget to education and declared a state of emergency in the sector, leading to improvements in infrastructure and expanded access to quality education,” said Ambe.

Speaking on behalf of the six honoured governors, which included the governors of Borno, Oyo, Benue, Enugu, and Kebbi states, Governor Yusuf reaffirmed his dedication to further advancing education.

“Ensuring sustained progress is crucial for the future generations to succeed,” he remarked.

The ceremony also included speeches from prominent figures, including President Bola Tinubu, who was represented by the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, George Akume. Akume commended the awardees for their commitment to education, stressing the vital role teachers play in shaping Nigeria’s future.
