Gov. Lawal Celebrates as Zamfara Teacher Wins Prestigious National Award

Zamfara State Teacher, Mallam Musa Yahaya Paila was recognized as Nigeria’s best principal at the 2024 Presidential Teachers’ and School Excellence Awards, celebrating the positive impact of the state’s education emergency measures, as Governor Dauda Lawal emphasized the administration’s commitment to revitalizing the education sector.

The Federal Government has honored Mallam Musa Yahaya Paila, the Principal of Sambo Secondary School in Gusau, Zamfara State, as the best principal in Nigeria at the 2024 Presidential Teachers’ and School Excellence Awards. The awards were announced and presented by the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Senator George Akume, on October 5, coinciding with the annual celebration of World Teachers’ Day, which was established by UNESCO in 1994 to acknowledge the vital role of teachers in societal transformation.

Mallam Paila received the “Best Principal Award” in the public Senior Secondary Schools category, along with a medal and a brand-new car, at a ceremony held at Eagle Square in Abuja.

Zamfara State Governor Dauda Lawal expressed his excitement over this achievement, stating in a press release on Sunday that the state’s declaration of a state of emergency in the education sector is beginning to yield positive results. “This recognition demonstrates that the emergency measures implemented in Zamfara’s educational sector since November 14, 2023, are effective,” the statement, signed by the Governor’s spokesperson Sulaiman Bala Idris, read.

Governor Lawal reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to revitalizing an education sector that had significantly deteriorated.

In celebration of World Teachers’ Day, the Federal Government emphasized the theme, “Valuing Teachers’ Voices: Towards a New Social Contract for Education,” and awarded prizes, including cars, motorcycles, and generators, to winners from both public and private primary and secondary schools across the country.
