Kano State Varsity Gets Lifeline From Dangote

Africa’s richest man and President of the Dangote Group, Alhaji Aliko Dangote, has promised to support the Aliko Dangote University of Science and Technology, Wudil, Kano to enhance academic performance.

The Vice Chancellor of the university, Professor Musa Yakasai, said this in a statement made available to newsmen.

Dangote is the chancellor of the university whose name was changed from Kano State University of Science and Technology (KUST) to Aliko Dangote University of Science and Technology.

The statement said Dangote promised to intervene in seven key areas following a  formal request by the university management for his support during a thank-you visit to his Lagos office on Wednesday.

The  vice chancellor said Dangote pledged to construct a befitting Senate Building for the institution, three additional students’ hostel blocks and  10 senior academic staff accommodation.

Dangote  also pledged to upgrade the university’s water treatment plant to address the water supply issues and promised to bear the  financial burden of the university’s 5th convocation ceremony.

The VC disclosed that the Africa richest man further reiterated his plans to provide a sustainable energy solution to the university’s electricity supply problem in addition to pledging to provide official vehicles to principal officers.

Prof Yakasai said the visit was paid  to show appreciation to the chancellor for his intervention in paying the sum of N100 million to settle electricity bill after the institution was disconnected by the Kaduna Electricity Distribution Company.

The payment was made through the Aliko Dangote Foundation, which facilitated the immediate reconnection of electricity to the university
