Kaduna State government approved guidelines for accessing education loans and scholarships. According to the government, Medical students can access upto N2 Million whilst others upto N1 Million, payable within 10-years period after graduation with zero percent interest application

As part of the ongoing reforms of the Kaduna State Scholarship and Loans Board, the General Public may recall that a N2 Billion Naira Education Loan was established, out of which over 500 beneficiaries have accessed and benefited to the tune of N822.5 Million disbursed. This Education Loan can only be accessed by parents or guardians who serve as Sponsors and are to make monthly repayments at a single-digit Interest Rate of 8 percent per annum.
The Board is pleased to announce the creation of a Students Education Loan, to be accessed directly by students. The repayment of this Loan is expected to commence after the Special Moratorium of Two (2) years after graduation with a repayment span of 10 years at zero interest.
This is contained in the recently approved Guidelines for Accessing Education Loans and Scholarships. In 2022, the Board submitted a draft guidelines of which the Guidelines for Accessing Scholarships was approved in July 2022 whilst the Guidelines for Accessing Education Loan was approved in April 2023. Both Guidelines have been forwarded to the Ministry of Justice, for gazetting, as part of Institutionalization of the Board.
The Board’s team, led by the Executive Secretary, Hassan Rilwan joined the Honourable Commissioner Of Education, Haj. Halima Lawal in a signing Ceremony that recorded a major milestone for the Education Sector in general, and Kaduna State Scholarship and Loans Board in particular.
The Commissioner, commended the efforts of the Executive Secretary and his Team, for the transformations witnessed in the Board, under his stewardship.
She commended the Professionalism, Objectivity and Hard-Work of the Board, mentioning that, the right Foundation and Institutionalization has taken place in the Board, to position it for better service delivery. While answering questions, the Executive Secretary, commended the Commissioner for her diligence and guidance in ensuring that, the Guidelines were approved. He further advises students that, several education funding opportunities are now available for Kaduna residents, to ensure that no student drops out of school on account of inability to pay tuition fees.
He mentioned that, students should put and maintain eagle-eyes to closely see the efforts put in place with a view of ensuring that, a level playing ground manifests for every student, irrespective of their background.
Students should focus more on the benefits of obtaining/securing either the Scholarship or Loan rather than considering the process therein, as herculean task. The Board, in its unwavering professionalism, will continue to look for ways of making the process more seamless.
