A brilliant Nigerian Lawyer, Hafsah Dauda has won the United Kingdom’s Chevening Scholarship to earn a Master’s degree in Psychology in the UK.

Hafsah, who graduated from Bayero University Kano (BUK) in 2016 and called to bar in 2017, applied for the 2022 version of the scholarship and celebrated emerging as one of the winners on her LinkedIn.
The Nasarawa state born revealed that it has always been her dream to switch from being a Barrister to a Psychologist, adding that she believes it can help reduce insurgency in the country.
In her words;
“Alhamdulillah, I have been #chosenforchevening 😊🙌🏽🙌🏽🙌🏽
I am delighted to announce that I shall be pursuing an Msc Psychological Studies with Mental Health at the prestigious University of Aberdeen, UK.
Deciding to transition from Law to Psychology has been one of the most challenging yet most natural things for me. But it had remained a dream until I decided to take a leap of faith.
I am immensely grateful to Chevening Awards, FCDO Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office and University of Aberdeen for funding this cause.
Coming from a region with a high poverty and illiteracy rate which has been further riddled by insurgency, I am happy for this opportunity to study Psychology in order to help address the psychological issues faced by the victims of insurgency and banditry caused by the years of unrest.
I believe it will boost the vast potential of the people of my beautiful state and Nigeria at large.
I dream of a Nigeria were the average citizen will have a basic knowledge of mental health and I will love to work towards the inclusion of mental health studies in Nigerian institutions.
My entire gratitude is to Allah for scaling me through the intense and positively life-changing processes through the months. A huge thank you to family and friends for the support and belief in my dreams and capacity.”

I have been trying to convince a friend to do something very close to that this morning.
I pray you to succeed, your success is ours(the northerners)
