The MSL Foundation has awarded scholarships of N120,000 each to 30 underprivileged Ebonyi State undergraduates to address low literacy levels, with founder Lebechi Mbam pledging continued support and urging beneficiaries to seize the opportunity for a better future.

A non-governmental organization, MSL Foundation, has awarded scholarships to 30 underprivileged undergraduates from Ebonyi State studying in various universities across Nigeria.
During the launch of the scholarship program in Abakaliki, the state capital, each beneficiary received a cheque for N120,000. The initiative aims to address the educational challenges in Abakaliki Local Government Area, where literacy levels remain low.
Presenting the cheques, the founder of the foundation and Ebonyi State Commissioner for Works, Lebechi Mbam, emphasized the importance of education as a foundation for a better future. He shared his personal struggles with education after losing his father and expressed his commitment to helping others overcome similar challenges.
“The society is getting tougher every day, and education is the key to progress. This scholarship is a way to support the youth, who represent the future, by laying a solid foundation today,” Mbam said. He pledged to sustain the program and expand it to include the other two local government areas in the Izzi Clan in subsequent editions.
He added, “Having faced financial difficulties during my studies, I know how crucial such support can be. This initiative is for those who are willing to learn but lack the means to pay for their education.”
The event was attended by notable figures, including the wife of the state governor, Mrs. Mary-Maudline Nwifuru, represented by Prof. Nkechiynyere Echiegu; Chairman of the scholarship foundation, Mbam Ogodo; the State Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Ben Odo; and Chairman of Abakaliki Local Government, Ebere Nwogba.
They commended Mbam for his generosity and highlighted the program’s potential to reduce illiteracy in Abakaliki. Beneficiaries were urged to seize the opportunity to improve their academic prospects, with Mrs. Nwifuru warning that students who neglect their studies risk being removed from the scheme.
One of the beneficiaries, John Okechukwu, a medical student struggling to pay his tuition fees, expressed gratitude to the foundation, describing Mbam as his savior. He promised to make the most of the opportunity to justify the trust placed in him.
