Ayodeji Lucky, a young Nigerian man has shared his journey to getting a scholarship abroad to study Robotics.

Ayodeji Lucky

Sharing his story with ALLSCHOOL, Ayodeji said he decided to apply for scholarships because his parents weren’t able to afford to train him abroad.

He went further to narrate that the scholarship didn’t come easy as he had tons of rejections, adding that the year 2017 to 2020 was his toughest years.

In his words:

It all started in 2016 after graduating from high school. There was no way my family could afford the cost of sending abroad despite the fact it was my mega dream.

“I started applying for scholarships that did not require language test certificate and SAT. The more I applied, the more rejections I got.

“Even people I guided were able to make it. It was my most difficult times (2017 to 2021).

One of the Scholarships I applied is Japanese MEXT Government Scholarship, Asian toughest Scholarship. I made it at the fifth attempt.

In 2017, I did not pass the document screening.
In 2018, same thing.
2019, passed everything but didn’t make the final stage.
In 2020, covid came it was cancelled.
In 2021, I got it.

Now, Japanese Government is going to invest some huge amount of money in my education. The Scholarship covers everything. I’m just grateful that I didn’t give up.

Ayodeji who left Nigeria in June 2022, said he will be studying Robotics and added that he chose the programme to help tackle the insecurities in Nigeria.

“I’ll be studying Robotics for some years. I’m just passionate about AI technologies, it is the future. I see myself in 2030 building autonomous remote control robots that can map, track, rescue and present real time analysis to curb the rising insecurity in Africa,” Ayodeji told ALLSCHOOL

The young Nigerian who was a student who left the Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU) when he was in 400level, said during his time in the school he helped hundreds of students and believes his goodness has paid off.

I was a student of OAU and during my time in OAU, I helped as many students as possible to pass. Like if I should start counting I’ll lose hold, hundreds of students in different fields. I believed everything later paid off,” Ayodeji said.

Advising students who want to also get scholarships abroad, Lucky said: “I think information is very important. Nigeria has many talented students but they are not informed. I can say getting information is the first step. It tells you the requirements so that you can prepare before time.

Internet has made things easier. I know so much about Scholarships because I visit some websites regularly.

And Lastly, delay is not denial, don’t give up

Ayodeji hopes his story motivates as many students as possible not to give up on their dreams. He also hopes students and the general public will always remember that it pays to be good and kind.

Congratulations to you Ayodeji Lucky. We are super proud of you and wish you success throughout your stay in Japan.
