After facing ten scholarship rejections, Temidayo Falade persevered and ultimately secured a fully funded World Bank Scholarship to study at the University of California, Berkeley, proving the power of resilience and determination.

Temidayo Falade, a Nigerian graduate of Babcock University, faced ten scholarship rejections over several years before finally securing a fully funded World Bank Scholarship to study at the University of California, Berkeley. His journey, which began in 2016 with a degree in business administration, was marked by persistence despite numerous setbacks.
Determined to pursue a graduate degree abroad, he applied for various prestigious scholarships, including the Chevening Scholarship, Commonwealth Scholarship, Knight-Hennessy Scholarship at Stanford, and the Mastercard Scholarship at the University of Edinburgh and Berkeley, among others. Each rejection was a tough blow, with one particularly emotional moment coming when he learned of his Berkeley Mastercard rejection while on an “Okada” ride to work.
Rather than letting the setbacks discourage him, Temidayo used them as motivation to improve his applications and continue applying. His resilience and determination eventually paid off in 2023 when he was awarded the highly competitive World Bank Scholarship, which supports development specialists with at least three years of experience.
Temidayo’s story serves as an inspiration for others facing similar struggles, proving that perseverance and hard work can ultimately lead to success. His achievement highlights the importance of resilience in the face of rejection and the power of persistence in pursuing one’s dreams.
