Nigerian see Student Denied Admission Twice Despite Scoring 304 in JAMB Finally Secures Full Scholarship to Study Medicine in Russia

After being denied admission twice despite scoring high in JAMB, Nigerian student Okonkwo Chukwudozie Joshua has secured a fully funded scholarship to study Medicine at St. Petersburg State University in Russia, showcasing resilience and determination in pursuing his dream.

Okonkwo Chukwudozie Joshua, a resilient Nigerian student, has overcome repeated obstacles to achieve his dream of studying Medicine. Despite being denied admission twice by Nnamdi Azikiwe University (UNIZIK) despite scoring high in JAMB, Joshua has now secured a fully funded scholarship to study at St. Petersburg State University, Russia.

Joshua’s journey to success was anything but easy. In 2022, he scored 284 in his first JAMB attempt but was denied admission to study Medicine and Surgery. Undeterred, he prepared for another attempt, only to miss the 2023 JAMB registration while waiting for an admission offer that never came. Determined to pursue his dream, Joshua sat for the 2024 JAMB exam and achieved an impressive score of 304.

Despite his outstanding performance, UNIZIK offered him admission to study Radiography instead of Medicine, a course he declined. Frustrated by the repeated setbacks, Joshua took to social media to share his struggles. In a heartfelt post on X (formerly Twitter), he expressed his disappointment:

“First JAMB, 2022 – Was denied admission. Missed 2023 registration while waiting for admission. Spent another year at home reading. 2024 – Scored 304. No admission again. My dream to become a doctor is in the mud. God knows I fought a good fight. I will have to move on without school.”

The post quickly went viral, drawing support and encouragement from many netizens. Among those who responded was Enyo Sam, who informed Joshua about a Medicine program at St. Petersburg State University that offers full-tuition scholarships. Enyo and his team guided Joshua through the application process, ultimately securing his admission and scholarship.

Joshua expressed immense gratitude for the support he received and reflected on how he coped with the delays in his education. During the waiting periods, he developed skills in website and graphic design to stay productive.

Reflecting on his journey, Joshua shared: “It’s been tough, but I’ll definitely pick up! It’s not over until I win.”

Now, with his scholarship in hand, Joshua is set to begin a new chapter in his academic journey, proving that perseverance and determination can overcome even the toughest challenges.
