Northwest University Kano VC Announces NUC Approval of New Academic Programmes .

The Vice-Chancellor of Northwest University Kano, Professor Amina Salihi Bayero, is pleased to inform members of the University community and the general public that the National Universities Commission (NUC) has approved the establishment of additional academic programmes in the University following a successful resource assessment and verification exercise.

This development was conveyed in an official letter dated 26th February, 2026, with reference number NUC/AP/S37/VOL.1/25, addressed to the Vice-Chancellor. The letter indicated that the Executive Secretary of the Commission has considered and approved the establishment of the full-time mode of the programmes to be run at the Main Campus of the University with effect from the 2026/2027 Academic Session.

The newly approved programmes include:

Undergraduate Programmes:

  • B.Sc Physics with Electronics
  • B.Sc Industrial Physics
  • B.Sc Broadcasting
  • B.Sc Development and Communication Studies
  • B.Sc Information and Media Studies
  • B.Sc Journalism and Media Studies
  • B.Sc Applied Geophysics

Postgraduate Programmes:

  • M.Ed Philosophy of Education
  • Ph.D Philosophy of Education

The approval follows a rigorous evaluation by a panel of experts who assessed the human and material resources available for the successful take-off of the proposed programmes.

Professor Amina Salihi Bayero explained that this milestone represents one of the significant achievements recorded within her few months in office as Vice-Chancellor, reflecting her administration’s commitment to academic expansion, innovation, and alignment with global best practices.

The Vice-Chancellor also assured that the University will continue to strengthen its human and material resources to sustain the quality and growth of the programmes.

This achievement highlights the steady progress of Northwest University Kano under the leadership of Professor Amina Salihi Bayero and her unwavering commitment to providing quality education and expanding opportunities for prospective students.
