The Senate of Nasarawa State University, Keffi (NSUK), has approved the unbundling of the Faculty of Natural and Applied Sciences into three separate faculties as part of ongoing efforts to strengthen academic administration, enhance specialization, and improve the delivery of quality education.

The decision was reached at the 140th Regular Meeting of Senate held on Monday, 25th May, 2026.
According to an official memorandum signed by Barrister Ramatu A. Liman, Senior Deputy Registrar (Academic Affairs), on behalf of the Registrar, Senate approved the establishment of the following faculties:
- Faculty of Computing
- Faculty of Life Sciences
- Faculty of Physical Sciences
The restructuring is aimed at aligning the University’s academic programmes with emerging global trends and best practices in higher education while providing a more focused framework for teaching, research, innovation, and capacity development.
As part of the restructuring process, Senate also considered and approved the recommendation of the Academic Planning and Curriculum Committee regarding the placement of the Department of Statistics and Data Analytics. The Department, which was initially proposed to be domiciled in the Faculty of Physical Sciences, has now been reassigned to the Faculty of Computing in recognition of its growing relevance to data science, computing, artificial intelligence, and other digital technologies.
The approved recommendations have been forwarded to the University’s Governing Council for further consideration and approval in line with established regulations and governance procedures.
The development marks a significant milestone in NSUK’s drive towards academic excellence, innovation, and institutional growth. It is expected to enhance administrative efficiency, promote interdisciplinary collaboration, and strengthen the University’s capacity to respond to the evolving demands of science, technology, and research in the 21st century.
The unbundling also reflects the University’s commitment to creating a more dynamic academic structure capable of supporting emerging disciplines and producing graduates equipped with the knowledge and skills required in an increasingly technology-driven world.
