OPay and University of Ibadan Launch 10-Year Scholarship Initiative

OPay, a leading financial institution in Nigeria, has signed a groundbreaking Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with the University of Ibadan to launch a 10-year scholarship initiative. This partnership will award N300,000 scholarships to 20 exceptional students each year, aiming to support a total of 400 students across 20 Nigerian universities, including Ahmadu Bello University and Nnamdi Azikiwe University. Through this initiative, OPay plans to invest N120 million annually, amounting to over N1.2 billion over the next decade, reinforcing its commitment to empowering future leaders.

The MOU signing ceremony, held at the University of Ibadan, was attended by OPay representatives, university officials, and some of the scholarship beneficiaries. UI Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Kayode Adebowale, expressed enthusiasm for the project, calling it a “ray of hope” for promising youth and an opportunity for students to focus on their academics.

OPay’s CTO/COO, Dotun Adekunle, highlighted the company’s dedication to supporting Nigerian students: “OPay is honored to partner with the University of Ibadan to support Nigeria’s future leaders. Through sustained financial aid, we aim to help students dedicate themselves fully to their studies and reach their full potential.”
