SAZU Partners with FACIS to Promote Violence Prevention in Bauchi

Sa’adu Zungur University (SAZU) has partnered with FACIS to promote violence prevention in Bauchi through a youth-focused, health-based workshop aimed at fostering peace, advocacy, and leadership within the university and surrounding communities.

Sa’adu Zungur University (SAZU), a state-owned institution in Bauchi, has reaffirmed its commitment to fostering peace and non-violence within its community by supporting initiatives focused on violence prevention.

This pledge was made during a two-day workshop themed “Re-understanding Violence Prevention through a Health Lens”, organized by Forward Action for Conservation of Indigenous Species (FACIS) in partnership with SAZU and other collaborators.

Professor Fatimah Tahir, Vice-Chancellor of SAZU, represented by Dr. Musa Adamu Wunti, applauded FACIS for choosing the university as the venue for this important program. She emphasized that the university is devoted to contributing to the peacebuilding efforts within Bauchi State and acknowledged the critical role of youth engagement in sustainable conflict prevention.

According to Prof. Tahir, creating a peaceful environment is vital to educational and social development. She encouraged students to actively participate in the workshop, assuring them that their voices and actions are essential to the broader mission of violence prevention.

FACIS Senior Technical Advisor, Dr. Salisu Ibrahim Waziri, stated that their approach frames violence prevention from a public health perspective, an approach backed by extensive research. SAZU was selected for this program due to its vibrant student organizations, including the Students Environmental Conservation Club and the Peace Volunteer Club.

The event aimed to equip students with practical skills and knowledge to counter violence through advocacy, peer engagement, and leadership in their respective communities. It marks a collaborative step forward in instilling values of peace and mutual respect across Bauchi and beyond.

The university affirmed it will continue working closely with FACIS to further develop and implement peace-promoting strategies, reinforcing a culture of safety and unity throughout the region.
