UI Student Dies After Ingesting Harmful Substance

A 300-level student of the University of Ibadan died after allegedly ingesting a harmful substance and was later pronounced dead at the University College Hospital despite medical intervention.

A 300-level student of the University of Ibadan has died after allegedly ingesting a harmful substance suspected to be an insecticide.

The incident reportedly occurred on Sunday night when the student was found unconscious on the ground floor of Nnamdi Azikiwe Hall by a fellow student. He was said to be in distress and later admitted to having taken a substance identified as “Sniper.”

The student was rushed to the university’s health centre, where he was initially stabilised before being referred to the University College Hospital for further treatment. Despite being placed on life support, he later passed away.

Confirming the development, the hospital’s Public Relations Officer, Funmi Adetuyibi, stated that the student was brought to the facility but did not survive.

The incident has left the university community in mourning, as investigations continue into the circumstances surrounding the student’s death.
