Ikanna Okim, a first-class law graduate from UNIUYO, has been awarded a full scholarship to Oxford University, where she plans to pursue a master’s degree and later a PhD in corporate and commercial law.


Ikanna Okim, daughter of renowned journalist Sunny Okim, has been awarded a full scholarship to pursue a master’s degree at Oxford University.
In 2021, she graduated with first-class honours in Law from the University of Uyo (UNIUYO), setting a record as the first student in 36 years to achieve this distinction. The following year, she also earned a first-class degree from the Nigerian Law School.
Okim will study at Oxford as an Oxford-Hackney BCL graduate scholar and plans to pursue a PhD in corporate and commercial law after completing her master’s.
Reflecting on her journey, Ikanna credited her success to a supportive upbringing that fostered independent thinking and curiosity, particularly under the influence of her father’s background as a journalist.
She also expressed gratitude for the encouragement from her family and university lecturers, acknowledging their role in shaping her achievements.
Ikanna’s father, Sunny Okim, is the publisher of The Frontier, an online newspaper in Nigeria.
