A University of Ibadan graduate, Piriye Gogo, fulfilled her long-delayed dream by earning an MBA from Miva Open University 19 years after losing her master’s admission due to pregnancy and family responsibilities.

A graduate of the University of Ibadan (UI), Piriye Gogo, has fulfilled a long-delayed academic dream by earning a Master of Business Administration (MBA) from Miva Open University nearly two decades after losing her master’s admission at her alma mater.
Piriye, who obtained a bachelor’s degree in Political Science and Government from the University of Ibadan in 2007, shared her inspiring educational journey on LinkedIn, explaining how life circumstances forced her to put her postgraduate ambitions on hold.
According to her, she secured admission into a master’s programme at the University of Ibadan shortly after completing the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC). However, while preparing for the programme, she discovered she was expecting her first child.
She explained that the combination of pregnancy, regular commuting to classes, academic assignments, and coursework became physically exhausting. Concerned about her health, she decided to defer the programme with the intention of returning after childbirth.
Unfortunately, after welcoming her baby, family responsibilities and other commitments prevented her from resuming her studies. As a result, she eventually lost both her admission and the opportunity to complete her master’s degree at the time.
Nearly 18 years later, she discovered Miva Open University through her husband, who had enrolled in one of the institution’s academic programmes. After accompanying him to his matriculation ceremony, she became impressed by the university’s learning environment, the enthusiasm of newly admitted students, and the motivational speeches delivered during the event.
Inspired by the experience, she decided to pursue her postgraduate studies at the university and enrolled in the January 2025 MBA cohort, choosing Entrepreneurship and Innovation as her area of specialisation.
After successfully completing the programme, Piriye celebrated earning her MBA, describing the achievement as the fulfilment of a dream that had remained unrealised for almost two decades.
Her story attracted widespread admiration on social media, with many people congratulating her for refusing to give up on her educational goals despite the long delay. Several commenters described her journey as inspiring and praised her determination and resilience.
Her achievement adds to a growing number of inspiring stories involving Miva Open University, which has recently celebrated graduates who returned to education after many years away from school, including professionals and parents pursuing new academic qualifications.
