The University of Nigeria, Nsukka (UNN) is facing ongoing power outages due to a N600 million electricity bill, which the management considers excessive, and has escalated the issue to higher authorities while urging patience from the university community.

The University of Nigeria, Nsukka (UNN) has attributed its ongoing power outages to an accumulated electricity bill of N600 million, which the management describes as “outrageous” compared to its energy consumption.
In a memo dated September 30, Acting Vice Chancellor Polycarp Chigbu stated that the university has raised the issue with higher authorities and urged calm among members of the institution.
Chigbu highlighted that the school has been placed on the high-consumption Band A by the electricity provider, EEDC, and stressed that the debt is beyond the university’s capacity to manage.
The federal government had earlier approved a tariff increase for Band A customers, which has sparked public dissatisfaction.
