Yoruba Girl Excels in Igbo, Emerges Best Graduating Student at Anambra School

A Yoruba girl achieved outstanding success in Igbo language and emerged as the best graduating student at a school in Anambra State.

Miss Saka Aliyat, a Yoruba student from Osun State, has made headlines after emerging as the overall best graduating student in Igbo language and several other subjects at the Choice De Immaculate Demonstration School (CIDS), Obosi, Anambra State, during the school’s 15th graduation and prize-giving ceremony held on Sunday, October 26, 2025.

Aliyat, who graduated as part of the Class of 2025, received numerous awards recognizing her excellence in English Language, Chemistry, Physics, Biology, Economics, and Marketing. The school also honored her with special titles, including Neatest Student, Most Disciplined, Most Punctual, Most Hard-working, and Most Friendly.

“Discipline and Cultural Immersion Were My Secrets” — Aliyat

Speaking after receiving her awards, Aliyat credited her achievements to determination, discipline, and cultural curiosity.

“Being a Yoruba girl in Anambra came with its own challenges,” she said. “But I approached my studies with an open mind and a commitment to understanding and appreciating the Igbo language and culture.”

She explained that her interest in the Igbo language went beyond academic requirements.

“It was a way to connect with my classmates and the community. I practiced daily, held conversations in Igbo, and immersed myself in local traditions. That’s how I improved and developed a deep appreciation for the culture.”

Aliyat also highlighted the importance of discipline in her academic journey.

“I maintained a steady study routine, stayed punctual, and ensured I was always prepared for classes. Discipline gave structure to my goals.”

“Education is more than grades,” she added. “It’s about relationships, influence, and helping others grow. I’m grateful that my efforts were recognized not only for academic performance but also for character and connection.”

She expressed heartfelt gratitude to the school management, teachers, fellow students, and her parents for their continuous guidance and encouragement.

Aliyat advised her fellow students to remain focused, hardworking, and respectful, urging them to listen to their teachers and school director, Engr. Solomy Ochokwu, whom she described as her “role model.”

Other Highlights from the Ceremony

In other categories, Miss Adanna Okeke was crowned Face of CIDS, while Miss Chidimma Ejindu received the title Princess of CIDS.

School Director Urges Graduates to Pursue Excellence

During her farewell address, Engr. Solomy Ochokwu, Director of CIDS, commended the graduating students and encouraged them to uphold the school’s values of discipline, resilience, and integrity as they step into the next phase of their lives.

“Be bold and purposeful,” she advised. “The world will test you, but wear resilience like armor. Fight with integrity and honesty. If you persist in these virtues, success will surely follow.”

She also urged the students to remain grateful to their parents and to remember their alma mater wherever they go.

Parents and guests—including Mr. Onyema Okeke, Chief (Dr.) Prince Nwokolo, High Chief Ozo Uzobulego, Mr. Ejindu, and Nze Chinedu Okafor—praised the school’s management and teachers for instilling strong moral and academic values in the students.

The event featured cultural dances, talk shows, a cake-cutting ceremony, and the presentation of prizes.
