Stephen Gyesi, a brilliant man who worked as a bricklayer to fund his education, has finally graduated with a first-class degree from the University of Ghana, overcoming skepticism and challenges from his family and village.

Stephen Gyesi, an exceptional young African man, has graduated with a first-class bachelor’s degree from the University of Ghana, Accra.
To fund his education, Stephen worked as a brickmaker and bricklayer, overcoming numerous challenges, including skepticism from his family and village.
Growing up in an environment where pursuing higher education seemed impossible, Stephen was often mocked and discouraged by those who believed no one from their village could attend university.
However, he remained determined to change his narrative and promised his parents a better future, starting by completing senior high school.
Despite being the first in his village to pursue tertiary education, Stephen worked tirelessly, saving every penny from construction jobs to cover his tuition fees and support his family.
Stephen’s dedication often came at the cost of his own comfort and well-being, as he sacrificed vacations and luxury to focus on his studies and help fellow students for free. Despite the hardships, his commitment paid off when he graduated with honors in Information and Religious Studies.
He also received the Vice Chancellor’s award for the best graduating student from a less-endowed school in the humanities and contributed to the Good Culture of Ghana Podcast as a moderator.
Grateful for the support from God, his parents, siblings, and others, Stephen advised students not to let circumstances dictate their destiny.
He encouraged them to believe in themselves, focus on their goals, and stay resilient against negativity.
