Her post reads: “When I told my high school teacher about my aspirations to become an architect, he said it wasn’t an ideal job for a woman and suggested I studied medicine instead.”

“Three years later, I’m studying architecture at a world class university on a fully funded scholarship and gaining transformative leadership experience. “

“What if I decided to follow the path that people chose for me? It is time to break the bias and stereotypes around gender roles.  Young girls can and should be encouraged to dream big instead of cutting their wings. It is okay to be different because more times than not, that makes you a gem, a very rare gem.”

Many users reacted to Aisha’s post. Below are a few:

Umar Faruk Kabir Commented: “He may only be wrong in suggesting that Architecture is not idle for a woman whilst suggesting medicine for you… Studying medicine for woman will make her unique and more useful and resourceful to the society looking at the need for the womenfolk in the profession, especially in the field of gynaecology…”

Ahmad Muhammad Labbo said: “Make your reality a dream for someone to wish he/she is like you!!! Very impressive… I remove red cap for you”

Anne Boddington commented : “So lovely to read – and I hope you have a fulfilling career – my own journey was like yours and I am sure you will succeed! “
