If you’ve ever wondered, “What kind of questions do they like to repeat in JAMB?”—you’re not alone.
Smart students know that some questions are loyal, showing up year after year. In this guide, we’re revealing five of those recurring favorites you must prepare for.

1. Recommended Novel: The Joint Admission and Matriculation Board (JAMB) recommends a literature text which all candidates are expected to procure and read. From this text, a certain number of questions are set and students are expected to give answers to the questions.
This is the first part of your JAMB examination that you should be expecting questions from, this is done on a yearly basis.
It should be noted that JAMB recommended novels vary from year to year, meaning that the texts are changed from time to time and so, you can’t read the recommended texts for the JAMB examination of 2023 to answer the answer for the 2025 examination.
If you are intending to register and sit for JAMB, ensure you get the recommended text for the year and start reading while you prepare for other subjects.
2. English Language: The yearly JAMB releases its syllabus containing topics that candidates are expected to prepare for. Over the years, judging from past questions, there are some questions in the English language that are always repeated. These questions are made up of 3 sections which are comprehension, lexis and structure, and oral English. The questions that have been recurring in English from JAMB past questions are;
I. In the following sentence, identify the word that is not correctly spelt.
A) He was accused of plagiarism in his essay.
B) The millennium is a period of one thousand years.
C)She was embarrassed by his rude behaviour.
D)He received a compliment for his good work.
The correct answer is C, it is spelt embarrassed
ii. In the following sentence, identify the word that is most opposite in meaning to the word in capital letters.
A)He was CONVICTED of murder and sentenced to death.
B)He was ACQUITTED of murder and set free.
C)He was SUSPECTED of murder and arrested.
D) He was INDICTED of murder and charged.
The correct answer is B, as ACQUITTED means “to do away with” which is the opposite of Suspected, convicted and and indicted.
3. Mathematics: For mathematics, the syllabus usually cut across algebra, geometry, statistics, surd etc. The most repeated questions are;
i. If x and y are inversely proportional, and x=12 when y=4, find the value of y when x=9. A)3 B)4 C)5 D)6.
The answer is D.
ii. If the ratio of the angles of a triangle is 2:3:4, find the largest angle of the triangle. A)60° B)80° C)90° D)120°.
The answer is B.
Ratio 2:3:4 2y:3y:4y = 180 (sum of angles in a triangle)
2y+3y+4y= 180
9y=180 (divide both sides by 9)
y= 180/9= 20
: 4×20=80.
4. Biology: Biology is simply the studely of life and questions related to biology are questions under the topics included in the syllabus. Some of the common questions that are often repeated are;
i. Which of the following is not a characteristic of living organisms?
A)Growth
B)Movement
C)Respiration
D)Photosynthesis
The answer is D, photosynthesis only occur in plants but not animals.
ii. Which of the following is the correct formula for calculating the magnification of a microscope?
A) Magnification= Objective lens× Eye piecelens
B) Magnification= Objective lens+ Eyepiece lens
C) Magnification= Objective lens/Eyepiece lens
D) Magnification= Eyepiece lens/Objective lens
The answer is A
5. Physics: for physics, the commonly asked questions are;
i. A car of mass 800kg attains a speed of 25m/s in 20s. The power developed in the engine is
A)125W
B)250W
C)500W
D)1000W
ii. A ray of light strikes a plane mirror at an angle of incidence of 30°. The angle of reflection is
A)15°
B)30°
C)45°
D)60°
6. CRS: For Christian religious studies, the most repeated questions are;
i. Which of the following is the first book of the New Testament?
A) Matthew
B) Mark
C) Luke
D) John
ii. Which of the following is the name of the place where Jesus was crucified?
A) Bethlehem
B) Nazareth
C) Jerusalem
D) Golgotha
7. Commerce: The most common asked questions on commerce include;
i. Which of the following is not a function of money?
A) Medium of exchange
B) Store of value
C) Measure of value
D) Source of income.
ii. Which of the following is not a type of trade barrier?
A) Tariff
B) Quota
C) Subsidy
D) Embargo
These are few of the questions that are usually repeated by JAMB.
