Cursory: The administration of Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife, has announced the passing of Okoli Ahize, a 500-level civil engineering student. The dead was allegedly slain by a crowd, according to a statement released by the management of the institution. Ahize was reportedly assaulted by outraged students after they thought they had caught him stealing a cell phone.


The death of Okoli Ahize, a final-year undergraduate student at the Obafemi Awolowo University in Ile-Ife, has been confirmed by an emerging report. According to reports, an irate mob beat Ahize to death after accusing him of stealing a cell phone.
According to a report by Punch, the event happened on Monday, April 10, in the institution’s Awolowo Hall of Residence. Another source stated that Ahize, the deceased, was a final-year 500-level student in the Department of Civil Engineering.
As reported by Channels TV online, Prof Bamire said:
“The action of the mob, being a violation of the law of the country and of the University regulations, has been reported to the police who have commenced investigations.
“The University administration hereby commiserates with the parents of the deceased, staff and students, and prays that God will grant us the fortitude to bear this irreparable loss.”
The Osun state police command had not yet released a statement about the incident as of the time this news was published.
