The Vice-Chancellor, Ahmadu Bello University, Prof. Kabiru Bala, has approved the appointment of Prof. Muhammad Nasir Shuaibu as the Dean of School of Postgraduate Studies.


Prof. Shuaibu replaces Prof. Sani A. Abdullahi who had successfully rounded off his second term as Dean of the Postgraduate School.
A letter conveying Shuaibu’s appointment explained that the assignment took effect from 12th July, 2023, and it is for a period of two years.
Prof. Shuaibu, who is currently the Director, Centre for Biotechnology Research and Training (CBRT), Ahmadu Bello University, will, by the appointment, be responsible to the Vice-Chancellor for the day-to-day operations of the School.
The letter also said the appointment was in recognition of his administrative and academic leadership qualities and in the hope that he would bring his worthy experiences to bear in the service of the University.
This, according to the letter signed by the Vice-Chancellor, was necessary, as the University was now emphasizing on postgraduate training.
While urging Prof. Shuaibu to be fair and firm in all his official dealings, the Vice-Chancellor also enjoined him to see himself as part and parcel of the University Management and be prepared to make sincere inputs for the development of the institution.
Prof. Shuaibu joined the services of Ahmadu Bello University as a Graduate Assistant at the Department of Biochemistry soon after the mandatory national youth service (NYSC) in 1993, and he rose to become a Professor of Molecular and Biochemical Parasitology in 2014.
Shuaibu published a number of articles in high impact journals and presented several papers at many scientific conferences in the area of malaria and neglected tropical diseases (NTDs).
He attended different trainings in research ethnics, curriculum design and high impact research, and International Accreditation Assessor with NIH, MIT and Royal Society of Biology respectively.
He has graduated and mentored a number of MSc and PhD students both at Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria and Nagasaki University, Japan, where he obtained his PhD in 2004 at the Department of Protozoology, Institute of Tropical Medicine (ITM), Graduate School of Biomedical Sciences.
Prof. Shuaibu was the Head, Department of Biology, Ahmadu Bello University from 2016 to 2020; and the Dean, Faculty of Life Sciences, Ahmadu Bello University between 2018 and 2023.
