A proprietor, Rev. Fr. Elias Torugh has expressed his dissatisfaction over the closure of the Benedictine Order Academy Schools in Makurdi by the Benue State Government, explaining that the school’s use of an uncompleted building was only a temporary measure following their recent eviction.
The Benue State Government on Monday sealed the Benedictine Order Academy Schools in Makurdi’s Nyiman area for failing to meet the required standards.
The school’s proprietor, Rev. Fr. Elias Torugh, expressed dissatisfaction with the government’s action.
Dr. Terna Francis, Director General of the Bureau for Education Quality Assurance, stated that the school, which was operating in an unfinished hotel building, lacked a curriculum, lesson plan, qualified teachers, and was unregistered.
He emphasized that the state would not tolerate sub-standard schools for the safety and education of children.
Additionally, Town Planner Ternongo Mede of the Benue State Urban Development Board pointed out that the building was unfit for educational use.
Rev. Fr. Torugh acknowledged the inadequate learning conditions but explained that the move was temporary, as they had been evicted from their previous location. The school, which serves 924 students, was intended to stay in the unfinished building for just one term.
