Benue State Governor Hyacinth Alia has proposed renaming Benue State University after former Governor Moses Adasu, alongside announcing new campuses, scholarships for first-class graduates, and development projects to enhance the institution’s growth.
The Benue State Governor, Hyacinth Alia, has proposed renaming Benue State University (BSU) in honor of the late ex-governor Moses Adasu. An executive bill to this effect has been forwarded to the state assembly.
Moses Adasu served as governor of Benue State from January 2, 1992, to November 1993, under the Social Democratic Party platform.
Governor Alia announced this initiative during the 22nd, 23rd, and 24th combined convocation ceremonies of BSU in Makurdi, the state capital. He also pledged to donate 500 computers to the institution to enhance its computer hall.
“Our administration is committed to bringing education closer to the people,” said Governor Alia. He further revealed plans to establish new campuses of the university in Adikpo, Kwande Local Government Area, and the Benue South Senatorial District.
In addition, Governor Alia awarded scholarships to 44 first-class graduates of the university, granting them automatic scholarships to pursue master’s degree programs in their respective fields at BSU. He encouraged the graduates to excel in their endeavors, saying, “Go into the world, conquer it, and make your mark.”
The Vice-Chancellor of BSU, Professor Tor Iorapuu, shared updates on the university’s development, including the construction of a 144-bed hostel for students and plans to relocate the Faculty of Technology and Industrial Studies to Adikpo.
The institution’s chancellor, Najib Adamu, urged graduates to contribute positively to society and uphold the university’s reputation at all times.
