Abdulmateen Adebiyi, a PhD candidate at the University of Missouri, has received the Outstanding Achievement Award from Upsilon Pi Epsilon for his pioneering research in artificial intelligence and healthcare technology, particularly in dermatology.
Abdulmateen Adebiyi, a PhD candidate in Computer Science at the University of Missouri, has been honored with the Outstanding Achievement Award from Upsilon Pi Epsilon (UPE), the premier international honor society for computing and information disciplines.
This prestigious recognition highlights Adebiyi’s commitment to advancing computer science and his impactful research in healthcare technology.
Expressing his gratitude, Adebiyi acknowledged the mentorship and support he received throughout his academic journey.
“I would like to thank Dr. Kamrul Islam, the department chair; Dr. Praveen Rao, my advisor; Dr. Becevic Mirna, my committee member; and Dr. Michael Jurczyk, our UPE chapter advisor, for their mentorship and guidance,” he said. “This achievement is a testament to their unwavering belief in my potential, for which I am very grateful.”
Adebiyi conducts his research at the Scalable Data Science Lab under the guidance of Associate Professor Praveen Rao. His work focuses on leveraging artificial intelligence and knowledge graphs for disease diagnosis, particularly in dermatology. Using deep learning, he is developing tools to help physicians triage skin care patients more efficiently. Additionally, his research involves analyzing video data from Dermatology ECHO sessions to extract key discussions and treatment insights for primary care physicians.
His doctoral studies are funded by the University of Missouri TRIUMPH grant and the Mizzou Telehealth Network, reflecting the interdisciplinary nature of his work and its potential to bridge the gap between technology and medicine.
Adebiyi’s recognition by UPE marks a significant milestone in his academic career, reinforcing the growing impact of his research in both the technology and healthcare sectors.
