Adeyemi Federal University of Education Set to Graduate 18,825

The authorities of the Adeyemi Federal University of Education (AFUED) Ondo, has disclosed that a total of Eighteen thousand Eight Hundred and Twenty Five (18,825) graduands would be awarded with diplomas, certificates and degrees at a graduation ceremony, scheduled to hold on Friday May 23 in the institution.

The graduands include those who graduated from 2017/2018, 2018/2019, 2019/2020, 2020/2021, 2021/2022, 2022/2023 academic sessions as Nigeria Certificate in Education (NCE) and degree students.

The Acting Vice – Chancellor of the University, Prof. Samuel Akintunde, made the disclosure in a speech delivered at a press conference which held in the institution on Monday May 19, 2025 to kick-start activities organised as part of programmes of events to mark the 35th convocation ceremony of the University.

Describing the 35th convocation ceremony as another significant milestone in the history of the institution, the Acting University Administrator said the event was organised to “celebrate the academic achievements of our graduating students and reflect on the progress of the university”.

“It is noteworthy that the last convocation ceremony was held in 2018 as a College. it is therefore gratifying to announce that this convocation is the first to be held under our new dispensation as Adeyemi Federal University of Education”, he remarked.

Also outlining programme of events for the 61st Foundation Day of the institution, Prof. Akintunde stated that the programme expected to begin on Monday May 19, 2025 in the University, would include inter Faculty Debate, Alumni Football competition, Alumni Foundation Day lecture and Alumni Re-union Night scheduled to hold on Friday May 23 at the University Quadrangle by 5p.m.

He also added that the grand finale of Alumni Activities would hold at the Alumni Hall in the institution by 10: am, where the Alumni National Convention would also be held.

In addition, the Acting University Administrator gave overview of what to expect at the 35th convocation Ceremony stating that a convocation lecture entitled:
“The Advent of Artificial Intelligence and the future of Nigeria Tertiary Education”, would be delivered by Prof. Toyin Falola, a Professor of African Studies at the University of Texas in Austin, United States of America.

Prof Akintunde also added that the lecture presentation would be followed on Thursday May 22 by a convocation play at 4pm in the University.

The Acting University Administrator further disclosed that three outstanding Nigerians, would be awarded with Honourary Doctorate Degrees at the event.

He listed them to include the incumbent Nigeria First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, (CON), Oba (Dr) Victor Adesimbo Kiladejo (CFR) Jilo III, the Osemawe and Paramount ruler of Ondo Kingdom and Prof. Toyin Falola of the University of Texas in Austin, USA.

Prof. Akintunde used the occasion to enumerate achievements recorded by his Administration from year 2018, when he took over the mantle of leadership as head of the institution, to include renovation of Education Trust Fund (ETF) hostel, establishment of Sir Banji Akingbule CBT Centre, construction and rehabilitation of 4 kilometer road network with Asphalt outlay, construction of a new Library complex as well as construction of a new faculty of Education building and lecture theatre.

Others are construction of Prof. Adeyemi Idowu hostel, construction of new Hall at Adeyemi Varsity Demonstration Secondary School and renovation of four old hostels which include Oduduwa, Olunloyo, Tinubu and Wande Abimbola.

Also among the list of his achievements were construction of staff and students, relaxation centre, construction and renovation of two blocks of 20 offices each, renovation of old Health centre, provision of solar lights along the road and several Departments in the University.

Prof. Akintunde also listed other areas which his administration made significant impact in the institution to include achievement of improved academic standards, Information Computer Technology Advancement, improvement in staff and student welfare as well provision of adequate security in the institution.

The Acting University Administrator, while projecting for the future, expressed optimism that with the solid formation laid by his administration, and support received from the Federal government, the University would become a world class institution in teacher education and research saying “we are optimistic about the future and will continue to pursue excellence in all areas of our operations”, he stated.

While thanking the Federal Government under the leadership of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for upgrading the institution from a College of Education to a University, of Education, and the introduction of Nigerian Education Loan Fund (NELFund), which he said the institution is expecting the release of N68,316,200 (Sixty Eight Million, Three Hundred and Sixteen Thousand, Two Hundred Naira) for 995 students of the University, who have applied for it, Prof. Akintunde said the development would go a long way in alleviating the sufferings of indigent students in the country.

The Acting University Administrator also expressed appreciation to current Minister of Education, Dr. Maruf Tunji Alausa, Minister of State for Education, Prof. Suwaiba Said Ahmad, Executive Secretary of the National Universities Commission (NUC), Prof. Abdullahi Yusuf Ribadu, as well as the Osemawe of Ondo Kingdom, Oba Dr. Victor Adesimbo Kiladejo (CFR), Jilo III, and the Executive Governor of Ondo State, His Excellency, Hon. Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa for their contributions to National Development as well as advancement of Education in Nigeria.

The event which held at the New Centre for Education Technology (CET) building in the University, was attended by Principal Officers of the institution which include: Acting Vice Chancellor, Prof Samuel Akintunde; Acting Deputy Vice-chancellor, Prof. Olufemi Olajuyigbe; Registrar, Mrs. Olufisayo Fakorede; Acting Bursar, Mrs. Taiwo Adedoyin and Acting Librarian, Dr. Adeola Afolabi.

Also present was the National President Alumni Association, AFUED, Dr. Olowogboyega Oyebade; Deans and Directors, Heads of Directorates, Units and Divisions as well members of Central Committee of the 35th convocation Ceremony, Staff and Students of the university, representatives from various print an electronic media organisations.
