Airtel Africa Foundation (the “Foundation”) is the philanthropic arm of Airtel Africa plc, a leading provider of telecommunications and mobile money services, with a presence in 14 countries in Africa. Our mission is to empower Africa through financial inclusion, education, environmental protection and digital inclusion.
The foundation launched the “Airtel Africa Tech Fellowship” program to support young Africans from disadvantaged backgrounds to pursue higher education in STEM, as part of the Foundation’s broader goal of increasing the proportion of African youth with advanced Tech skills and shaping the next generation of tech leaders from the continent. The Foundation is partnering with selected Universities to support meritorious African students who secure admission for a tech-related undergraduate program.

Eligible Institutions for Airtel Africa Tech Fellowship for Undergraduates
The program will be open to students of the following seven public universities in Nigeria:
- University of Lagos (UNILAG)
- University of Nigeria (UNN)
- Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria (ABU)
- University of Benin (UNIBEN)
- Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU)
- University of Ilorin (UNILORIN)
- Tai Solarin University of Education (TASEUD)
Fellowship Reach
In Nigeria, the fellowship will support at least 100 students per year.
Fellowship Coverage
- Fellowships are for the full duration of the Bachelor of Tech, Science and Engineering programs for 4- 5 years
Eligibility forAirtel Africa Tech Fellowship for Undergraduates
The eligibility criteria for this Fellowship are as follows:
- The Fellowship will only apply to students admitted into any one of the 7 participating public universities.
- The Foundation will consider gender diversity as part of the selection criteria.
- The candidate shall not be a recipient of any other fellowship/scholarship/grants for the same purposes as being supported by Airtel Africa Foundation.
- Only new entrants shall be eligible. (100 level)
- The Candidate must demonstrate financial need to be eligible for the program
- Scored a minimum of 230 in JAMB
- Possess 5 credits, including English and mathematics, in one sitting.
- Applicants must have JAMB results and an admission letter, a School ID card & WAEC certificate/ result to be shortlisted

Eligible Courses
Information Technology, Computer Science, Systems Engineering, Computer Technology, Data Science, Software engineering, Library and Information Science, Cybersecurity, Artificial Intelligence, Telecommunication Engineering, and other tech or ICT-related fields.
1. Every applicant should have a valid personal email account and phone number.

3. Candidates should include personal and educational details in the application.
4. Applicants should upload scanned copies of the following as part of the application:
- Recent passport-sized photograph of the applicant in JPEG format, not more than 200kilobytes;
- University Admission Letter;
- Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examinations (UTME) Result;
- O’ Level Result(s); and ‘A’ Level /OND /NCE Result(s) as applicable;

1. What is the Airtel Africa Foundation Undergraduate Tech Scholarship?
It is the first-ever scholarship programme under the Airtel Africa Foundation, created to support high-performing Nigerian undergraduates pursuing degrees in technology and ICT-related fields. The programme provides academic and financial support to selected students each year.
2. Who is eligible to apply?
- Be Nigerian citizens
- Be currently enrolled in one of the seven chosen accredited Nigerian universities (on-site)
- Be studying an ICT-related course (e.g., Computer Science, IT, Software Engineering, Data Science, AI, Cybersecurity, etc.)
- Have a strong academic record and demonstrate financial need
3. How many students will be selected?
A total of 100 students will be selected this year.
4. Which universities are covered?
Participating universities are reviewed annually. Eligible institutions for each year will be listed on the application portal at the time of the call for entries. For this year, the seven universities are: University of Lagos (UNILAG), University of Nigeria, Nsukka (UNN), Ahmadu Bello University (ABU), University of Benin (UNIBEN), Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU), University of Ilorin (UNILORIN), and Tai Solarin University of Education (TASUED).
5. What does the scholarship cover?
The scholarship provides full academic support, including coverage for tuition, study materials, accommodation assistance, and a modest stipend. Exact disbursement details will be communicated directly to successful applicants.
6. How do I apply?
Applications must be submitted through the official portal. Detailed instructions, timelines, and required documents will be provided on the application page once the call for entries opens.
7. What documents will I need?
While requirements may vary each year, applicants should prepare:
