The Academic Staff Union of Universities, Sokoto State University branch, has declared a total, comprehensive, and indefinite strike, beginning from Wednesday.

The union said the failure of the university administration, governing council, and the state government to address lingering issues it raised were the reasons for the strike.
It promised comprehensive enforcement, stating that the strike would shut down all activities in the institution.
In a resolution at a congress meeting held at the Centre for Caliphate Studies, on Wednesday, the union reviewed the government’s response to its demands.
Members expressed dissatisfaction with the level of commitment shown by relevant authorities and the union announced the immediate suspension of all academic activities, including statutory meetings, examinations, student supervision, marking, and grading of scripts.
“The union also activated its strike monitoring committee to ensure strict compliance with the directive,” the communique issued at the end of the congress read.
The resolution was signed by ASUU-SSU Chairperson, Dr Saidu Abubakar, and Secretary, Hassan Aliyu.
