A breakdown of all graduands shows that diplomas account for 404 graduands, undergraduates for 15,460, postgraduate diplomas for 1,653, masters for 1,559, and Ph.Ds for 176.


The total of 19,252 breaks down the first-degree convocants by class of degree: 1st Class (337), 2nd Class Upper (5489), 2nd Class Lower (7241), 3rd Class (1867), and Pass (526), making a total of 15,460.
This disclosure was made during a pre-convocation press briefing by the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Muhammad Ahmad Abdulazeez, on Monday, 19th February 2024, at the Senate Chamber, Gubi Campus.
He said, “I welcome you to this pre-convocation briefing here at the Senate Chamber of Gubi campus of Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University, Bauchi. Let me begin by acknowledging the tremendous contribution your various media organizations have made towards the growth and development of our University over the years.”
He says, “This laudable cooperation by your individual and collective media organizations begins with you being their sole representatives in the state. Let us continue to have this symbiotic relationship for education development in Bauchi state and the country as a whole.”
The VC added, “The Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University is set to conduct its 26th, 27th, 28th, and 29th Combined Convocation ceremony between 22nd February 2024 and 24th February 2024. The cooperation from all stakeholders in the educational sector will determine the success of this exercise.”
He stressed that, “The media is one of them. That is why we invited you today to brief you on the activities lined up for the ceremony and to inform Nigerians about it as well as urge you to report these activities for the benefit of humanity.”
Muhammad Abdulazeez explained that “The combined Convocation ceremony will start on Thursday, 22nd February 2024, with the commissioning of 19 different projects completed in the last four years. These projects are spread in both Gubi and Yelwa campuses. We are inviting a number of dignitaries to commission these projects.”
“These include the Executive Governor of Bauchi State, His Excellency, Senator Bala Mohammed, the Governor of Katsina State, His Excellency, Dr. Dikko Umaru Radda, the Honourable Minister of Education, Professor Tahir Mamman, the Honourable Minister of Health, Dr. Ali Pate and all three Senators representing Bauchi state,” he added.
Furthermore, on Friday, 23rd February 2024, there will be a convocation lecture which will be delivered at 4:00 pm at the 1000 seat capacity lecture theater, Yelwa Campus. A Professor of Media Studies, Umar Pate, will deliver the lecture with the topic, “Education and Nigeria’s National Integration in the Digital Age: Matters Arising.”
The lecture will simultaneously hold along with an exhibition from various departments of the University at the same venue to showcase some of our breakthroughs in research and fabrication.
He also said that the third day of the ceremony will be held at the convocation square of the University here in Gubi campus. It will feature the graduation of four sets of graduands.
The VC said, “It is significant to mention here that we are graduating our first set of 25 medical doctors from this University.”
“Finally, the University Senate has approved the award of honorary Doctorate degrees to five distinguished Nigerians who will be honored on the convocation day. We are all set for a remarkable convocation ceremony. We invite you to be part of this important academic exercise and to report it diligently, please.”
