BREAKING: ASUU Re-elects Osodeke as National President

Cursory: Emmanuel Osodeke, the serving ASUU chairman has been re-elected unanimously by members of Academic Staff Union of Universities. The process took place in Jos, where some other national officers were were also re-elected. In a statement with pressmen Osodeke promised to release more details once he got back to base.

In the wee hours of Monday, members of the Academic Staff Union of Universities unanimously elected Professor Emmanuel Osodeke to a second two-year term as their national president.

He was the immediate past vice-president of the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU). Mr Osodeke, a professor of soil science at the Federal University of Agriculture, Umudike, Abia State, was first elected 30th of May 2021 during a three-day conference of the union which held at the Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka, Anambra State.

He took over from Biodun Ogunyemi, a professor of education at the Olabisi Onabanjo University, Ago-Iwoye, Ogun State.

It was discovered that the union members also re-elected Chris Piwuna, a Consultant Psychiatrist and Associate Professor in the College of Medicine, University of Jos, as Vice President in addition to Osodeke of the Michael Okpara University of Agriculture, Umudike, Abia State.

During the 22nd National Delegates Conference of ASUU, held at the University of Jos in Plateau State between May 19 and 21, 2023, they were re-elected.

The following ASUU National Officers were also re-elected at the conference: Prof. Siji Sowande, as Treasurer; Prof. Ade Adejumo, as Financial Secretary; Dr. Austen Sado, as Investment Secretary; Dr. Adamu Babayo, as Internal Auditor; and Dr. Aisha Bawa, as Welfare Secretary in place of Dr. Stella-Maris Okey.

After the National Delegates Conference, Osodeke spoke with our correspondent on his way to Abuja and rated it as a success.

He said “We have finished with our national delegates conference in Jos. It was successful. We are on our way back to Abuja. We will issue a statement regarding the conference and my re-election and other national officers when we get back to our station . Thank you”
